Ride to the Salon Raises Over £18,000 for St Benedict’s Hospice

What began as a heartfelt tribute to a dear friend has turned into an incredible community achievement.

On 2nd August, the Seaburn Retros & Friends set off on their Ride to the Salonan overnight charity cycle in memory of fellow cyclist Jen Deighton, who sadly passed away earlier this year from stomach cancer. The ride was organised to raise vital funds for St Benedict’s Hospice, who provided exceptional care and support to Jen, her family, and friends during her final month.

Riders pedalled through the night, arriving back at sunrise exactly as planned. The result? An extraordinary £18,000+ raised through personal donations, corporate sponsorship, and the generosity of the local community.

The event attracted strong media interest, with coverage on BBC Radio Newcastle, BBC Look North, and in the Sunderland Echo. Special thanks go to Sunderland AFC legends Gary Bennett and Kevin Ball, with Kevin even joining the ride on the day.

We at Richard Reed Solicitors were proud to sponsor this inspiring challenge and to see the community come together to remember Jen and support such a vital local cause. Every pound raised will help St Benedict’s Hospice continue their invaluable work for patients and families across the region.
