Understanding Grant Applications
Before assets can be collected or distributed, banks, building societies and other institutions will often require proof of authority. This is provided through a Grant issued by the Probate Registry.
There are different types of Grant depending on the circumstances, including:
- Grant of Probate – where there is a valid will and executors are appointed.
- Letters of Administration – where there is no will.
- Letters of Administration with Will Annexed – where there is a will but no executor able or willing to act.
- Other limited or specialised Grants, depending on the estate’s circumstances.
The application process can involve detailed paperwork, estate valuation and inheritance tax reporting. Even where an estate appears straightforward, accuracy is essential to avoid delays or complications.
We ensure the correct type of Grant is applied for and that the application is properly prepared and submitted.
